What is Co-Creation?
As defined in
The Co-Creator’s Handbook, coauthored by Carolyn
Anderson and Katharine Roske, co-founders of our community,
co-creation is “Co-participating consciously with the
laws or patterns of the Creator; conscious alignment with the
essence of others and with nature; Self aligning with Self,
vertically and horizontally.” A conscious co-creator is
one who surrenders and aligns their will with the intention
of Creation, the universal mind, the designing intelligence,
Spirit; one who shares their gifts and actualizes their dreams
in synergistic play with other co-creators to bring forth a
new world.
History of Co-Creation at Hummingbird
Hummingbird Living School is a project of Global Family, a non-profit
organization since 1986. Global Family has a rich history rooted
in global transformational work. Through its approach and skills,
facilitation and training, as well as its books, "The Rings
of Empowerment" (1993) and the later version, The
Co-Creator’s Handbook (2001), Global Family continues
to steward and promote the principles and practices of co-creation.
In addition to the pioneering work of Global Family other members
of the HBLS core team have made a significant contribution in
the field of innovative education. One individual was on the
core founding team of Boulder Graduate School (1980-1990), a
progressive educational institution devoted to transpersonal
and holistic studies, which became integrated into Naropa University
in 1990. Several others have been instrumental in the founding
and cultivating a variety of holistic and experiential models
of education including Shining Mountain Waldorf School, Misty
Mountain Free School, Boulder Valley Institute and Earth Guardians
Environmental Program.
Hummingbird
Ranch was founded in 1996 with the express desire to bring
forth a model co-creative community and ecovillage. Hummingbird
Living School is emerging as a living laboratory for conscious
evolution, embodying a co-creative way of life.
What is in development now for the Co-Creative Community Building Track?
The Co-Creative Community Building Track of the core curriculum
is a two-year sequence of study that grounds the learner in
the essential knowledge and skills for what it takes to grow
a successful community and specifically how to do that in a
co-creative way. We are intending to develop a model that will
support both full-time resident and non-resident learners (who
come for periodic weekend workshops) to follow this curriculum.
This track’s three core modules in development at this
time are:
• Essentials of Successful Community
• Non-Violent Communication
• Co-Creation as a Way of Life.
