Structurally, the backbone of the Living School is our core curriculum that has two tracks. The two tracks that make up our core curriculum are:
Co-Creative Community Building, and
Humaculture

Complementing the core curriculum is a variety of programs with special emphasis on youth leadership, healthy living, and green building.

The Purpose of the Core Curriculum
Just as Thomas Jefferson said that an educated populace is key to a successful democracy, we of Hummingbird Living School feel that having a strong learning environment at the center of our community is key to our ability to actualize our vision. We hold our community as a microcosm of human society. We optimize our ability to serve the global transformation by creating valuable community and social systems that can be replicated and applied at both micro and macro levels.

We all bring with us the conditioning and learning that has shaped us to fit into modern western culture. There is a need for an intentional framework and access to co-creative processes to help each of us shed our conditioning as we simultaneously open to our authentic nature. We no longer need shrug our shoulders and say “well this is how the world works”. When we take responsibility for ourselves, our actions, and our communities it has a multiplier effect on our perception of society. When we attempt to establish a community or ecovillage, we often think that by getting the land and utilizing green building principles and more sustainable technologies, that we will somehow live a more intimate, loving and fulfilling life. Yet, too often a community experience is disappointing to those who engage in the experiment and they discover that three critical pieces are missing—1) the human skills needed for intimacy, community and effective conflict resolution, 2) the consciousness and evolutionary skills necessary to truly transform as people, individually and as a community, and 3) A compelling vision to claim and manifest a new human expression.

We at Hummingbird seek to optimize our community experiment as well as share our lessons learned. As our model defines and refines itself useful case studies, tools, and methods will be accessible and shared through Hummingbird Living School and its core curriculum. We are in the business of supporting people in the transition from conditioned ways of thinking and living into consciously realizing the ease and practicalities of a new way of being together as loving people.
